Ski Season in the Mountains Around Sapporo (December – March)
From early December through March, the mountains around Sapporo open to one of the longest and most reliable powder snow seasons in the world. Sapporo Teine, the closest full resort, can be reached in under an hour from the city centre. Sapporo Kokusai, slightly further, offers wider groomed runs and consistent dry powder.
For a day’s excursion, Niseko (about two hours) sits at the heart of Hokkaido’s most famous ski destination, with four interconnected resorts beneath Mt. Yotei’s iconic conical peak. Rusutsu and Kiroro provide quieter alternatives with their own deep powder and forest trails.
From A Good Day Sapporo City Stay, the warmth of a private living space waits at the end of every ski day — a quiet space where the cold of the mountain gives way to the comfort of home.
