Autumn Foliage at Maruyama Park and Suburban Areas (October – November)
Through October and November, the maples of Maruyama Park ignite into deep reds and gold, transforming this forested park in central Sapporo into one of the most photographed autumn scenes in Hokkaido. The walking paths lead naturally into the grounds of Hokkaido Shrine, where centuries-old trees create a corridor of moving light.
For wider views, the Sapporo Botanical Garden and the grounds of Hokkaido University’s poplar and ginkgo avenues offer some of the city’s most celebrated autumn landscapes. The ginkgo avenue at Hokkaido University — a long corridor of yellow leaves in early November — is a Sapporo signature.
Autumn in Sapporo arrives slowly, and gives plenty of unhurried time to walk through it.
